Online Therapy for Binge Eating
Helping you break the binge cycle
If you’ve tried everything to overcome binge eating, a new diet or more willpower isn’t going to fix things. You need specialised support that includes evidence-based approaches to address both the psychological and biological aspects of binge eating that are keeping you stuck.
My work is about helping you to identify what’s keeping this cycle going, helping you to develop psychological skills and practical strategies to live a more meaningful life, free from binge eating.
What is binge eating?
Binge eating isn’t about a lack of willpower or poor discipline leading to overeating. It's a serious psychological difficulty involving recurring episodes of eating large amounts of food, usually in a short amount of time and often quite quickly. It usually happens in secret and comes with a feeling of being out of control during these episodes. Binges are then followed by intense feeling of distress, including guilt and shame.
Although Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is a recognised psychological issue, you don’t have to have a diagnosis (or meet any diagnostic criteria) to benefit from working with me. Many of the people I see describe their experience as compulsive eating, emotional eating, overeating, or simply telling me they either “can’t stop eating” or feel “out of control with food”.
These kinds of experiences are all related, sitting on the same spectrum, and they all respond well to the right kind of therapy.
Most of the people I work with recognise themselves in some of the following:
Eating beyond the point of fullness
Eating quickly
Feeling out of control around food
Eating in secret, hiding food or evidence of what you’ve eaten
Cycling between sticking to strict diets and binges
Trying different diets, meal plans, apps or protocols only to still end up having binges
Avoiding certain foods because you don’t trust yourself with them
Feeling stressed about social events involving food
Feeling intense shame, disgust, anxiety, and hopelessness
Trying to “make up” for binges with exercise or “locking in” on a restrictive way of eating
Does this sound like you?
If any of this sounds familiar, you need to know that you’re not weak, flawed, or broken. Binge eating is a very common, but massively underdiagnosed problem, and effective therapies are available.
My focus is on helping you find freedom from the binge cycle and to live a more fulfilling, meaningful life.
