Frequently Asked Questions
-
I offer online counselling/therapy for eating disorders and body image issues. As a therapist specialising in working with adults with eating disorders, I take a unique approach, drawing upon a range of models tailored your needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all style.

No. Many of the people I work with don’t have a formal diagnosis. If you’re struggling with food or body image in any way, that’s enough to be eligible for help.
Many people will say they aren’t sure if there issues are “bad enough” to justify getting help. If you’re reading this then your issues with food or body image are absolutely worth seeking help over, no matter how they compare to other people’s struggles.

Sessions are weekly, last 50 minutes and are £95 per session.

This is very individual as I don’t work with one type of person or issue. I work with some people for a matter of months and others need long-term support. We can discuss this and what you might need in your first session.

Evidence suggests that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. Myself and my colleagues have certainly found this to be true.
-
Before we have any therapy sessions together we’ll have a free 20-minute informal consultation to see if we might be able to good fit for working together.
The first full session is where we explore what’s currently happening for you, what’s worked/hasn’t worked previously, my approach, and what a way forward might look like. -
Yes - I work with a lot of people who have had therapy before that hasn’t helped. My approach is usually very different to what people have experienced before (something that people tell me is much more helpful for them).
-
Yes, full recovery is possible. I not only say that as someone who has fully recovered from a long-term eating disorder, but myself and my colleagues have seen people fully recover regardless of their age, gender, weight, how long they’ve had an eating disorder, or how severe it is.
-
No, weighing isn’t part of my approach. However, I do believe medical monitoring is important due to the physical risks that come with ANY eating disorder. Part of working with me requires that you have regular contact with your GP (or other appropriate health professional). This is something I can help you arrange if needed.

Yes. Eating disorders and body image issues don’t occur in isolation. Almost everyone II work with has issues that go alongside their eating disorder. This includes struggles such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem, stress, OCD, phobias, trauma, to name but a few. These things aren’t seperate issues and our work together addresses everything your bring (which often have the same roots).
For any issues that sit outside of my competence, I can help connect you with the appropriate professionals or resources. -
I’m unable to offer reduced/concessionary rates. Fees reflect not only my skills, training and experience, but ongoing clinical supervision, professional development and all of the administrative costs that come with running a business.
I also only work with a limited number of people at any one time to ensure I am able to work as safely and effectively as possible.
